Wood half cut
Cutting wood, now about half way through!

This update comes with not much work done on the house itself but lots of work done by me.

The picture above shows a pile of wood we had delivered. Actually what you see in the picture is about half of the wood we had delivered, I forgot to take my camera the day I started. It was delivered on a 7.5 tonne truck and was ordered as an amount in cubic metres. It was then up to me to cut it into logs that would fit in the fire.

After the big cut, no more wood
After the big cut, all done but not finished.

I was able to borrow a chainsaw so that made it easier though not being used to it I had aching arms and back. It took about three days working solid for about 5 hours a day. All I have to do now is....cut the resulting logs and short planks into thinner bits to fit into the fire. This requires a lot of hard work with an axe. Now the wood is inside I will be able to take my time and do a bit as I need it but the annexe is full so I need to cut the wood and stack it so I can get into and use the annexe.

The dining room floor dug
The dining room floor dug out.

Today, 31st January, I have lifted the last of the floorboards in the dining room and dug out the stone to make way for the concrete that will be the new floor. The channel you can see in the middle is where the new wall will go. This will make the small room for the wood burning boiler and make the kitchen into a dining kitchen. We will make an extra two metres of space in the kitchen for the dining area.
